“As long as the mind is associated with the object, so long it is the experiencing mind; but when the object of experience has diminished to the point where it has disappeared, the mind ceases to be the experiencing mind. Conscious mind becomes consciousness. But during this process of transformation, it first gains the state of its own individuality. It is interesting to see that…the Sanskrit word used is chitta, which signifies that aspect of mind which is a quiet and silent collection of impressions, or seed of desires. Chitta is like water without ripples. It is called manas, mind, when ripples arise. When the mind gains this state of chitta…then it stands steady, like “a lamp which does not flicker in a windless place.” It holds its individuality in the void—-the abstract fullness around it—because there is nothing for it to experience. It remains undisturbed, awake in itself.” Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

The practice of meditation provides one with the opportunity to ‘be’ in the void. Within this moment everything and nothing is present. Nothing and everything unfolds, resolves itself and remains still. Furthermore, I share with my students that you will not know (initially) you are in the void until you come out of this meditative state. It is from this point forward that you can practice retaining the stillness of the undisturbed mind that is awake within itself from moment to moment. The practice leads to retiring the senses, settling the mind, and mental activity becomes more and more refined. Eventually the mind will be able to draw from beyond time, space and will move beyond all limitations. The mind can see the future consequences of past action. In addition, if the mind remains clear there is nothing it cannot accomplish. If the mind remains pure it will operate consciously and move into thought with a unified level of awareness. From this state of being, one can consciously understand how one’s thoughts, words and actions will impact the whole.  With awareness one can move that consciousness into thought; then into words that are followed by pure action. Then, self will be in a state of frictionless flow and enter in to the field of “All Possibilities.”

Both these passages will invite you to spend time with them and to contemplate the words. In addition, you can utilize these passages to help you understand where you are within your meditation practice. It is within both these reflections that you might find the inspiration and motivation to deepen your meditative practice with consistency, humility and great discipline. As inspired, take time to meditate daily with that act of just sitting in silence and practice doing nothing. If you do not have a meditation practice, start with one sit per day and then increase to two sits per day. Alternatively, sit two times per day for shorter periods until you naturally crave more.

The benefits of accessing all possibilities is you retain the courage to move beyond what you think you know, let go of attachment and retaining a state of awareness that is a benefit for all.

Practice Presence. A regular, meditation practice will assist you in cultivating inner peace and presence. One of the side effects of meditation is presence in everyday life. By taking time daily to meet yourself in silence, you will find stillness and the ‘be’ help you throughout your day. In addition, you will discover the roller coaster of thoughts and emotions will start to diminish. When you free up your mind and heart, you will have more space to engage with what is unfolding around. You have less distractions and quickly discern what is available to support your everyday life. Finally, you will creating an inner calm that will help you reduce stress and anxiety on a daily basis.

Call to Action…If you are inspired to nourish your mind, body, heart and soul, take 10-15 minutes a day to just sit and do nothing in silence with the sun. Place your hands on your belly during this sit and breath into your inner fire. Visualize letting the past go.

A little more about the Solar Plexus and the Sound of RAM.

Third chakra meditation activates and opens your power chakra. First, this energy center is called the manipura chakra (the city of jewels), it is the seat of your identity and connects you to your will and destiny. Second, fire is the element, which helps us digest food, thoughts and emotions. Third, the energy of fire helps us with transformation. The inner fire helps you transform your inner world which transforms your outer world. Fourth, the color associated with this region of the body is yellow. If this area is blocked you might be experiencing low self-esteem, hyper-sensitivity to the world around you. Furthermore, you might suffer from fear and anxiety. These conditions can immobilize you and your life. Fifth, an over active solar plexus will lead you into a more self-centered way of living and being. Finally, all of which can impact the physical body with hypertension, insomnia, ulcers, digestive disharmony, sluggishness, poor appetite, fatigue and weakness.

The seed sound or mantra of the Fire element is RAM (pronounced as rum). Chanting this mantra helps activate the chakra. You can simply repeat this sound over and over and hold your awareness at your solar plexus. The vibrational frequency of the sound will help bring the region into harmony. An additional way to support your entire state of well being. In addition, you can practice sun gazing. Solar Qigong.
