Signs of Spring. Wood rising. Incoming transfer of wisdom from the masculine to the feminine and the feminine to the masculine at the next New Moon and partial solar eclipse.

This astronomical gateway leads us to a partial solar eclipse on March 29, 2025 (PST), where feminine energy (yin) passes her wisdom to the masculine (yang). It marks a true astronomical shift of seasons—locally, globally, and cosmically.

The partial solar eclipse on March 29, 2025, will be visible across parts of the Northern Hemisphere. In North America, northeastern U.S. states like Maine and eastern Canada, including northern Quebec (up to 93% coverage), will see it at sunrise. Europe will experience it mid-morning, with northwestern areas like Iceland (70%), Ireland (41%), and the UK (30-40%) seeing the most. Northwestern Africa, such as Morocco (25%), and northern Russia in Asia will also catch it. Greenland (86%), the Atlantic, the Arctic, and northern South America may glimpse it faintly. Exact visibility depends on location.

I share this not to encourage staring at eclipses—traditional elders have taught me this is disrespectful—but as a time to meditate, be present, and listen. Notice what shifts from the receptive side of self (feminine) to the giving side (masculine). Springing into action, falling into repose. If inspired, create space to hear where your inner being guides you. This can deepen your harmony, peace, and great work in this life.

As inspired, notice nature’s changes to follow the seasonal shifts. Seasons are reflections of nature. Calendars are numbers imposed on nature; they do not always stay in harmony with each other, especially if you live in another part of the world.

Where are you ready to surrender?
Where do you feel constriction in your mental, emotional, spiritual, and/or physical body?
What are you ready to emerge as and with?

Test Kitchen. Spring + Lemons.

Lemon Bar Recipe:
Crust:
1 cup whole wheat flour
¼ cup ghee (clarified butter)
2 tbsp jaggery syrup (dissolved in water)
½ tsp ground cardamom.

Filling:
½ cup fresh lemon juice
¼ cup honey (instead of refined sugar)
2 eggs
1 tbsp arrowroot powder (thickener)
½ tsp vanilla

Instructions:

Mix crust ingredients, press into a pan, and bake at 350°F for 15 minutes. Whisk filling ingredients, pour over crust, bake 20-25 minutes until set. Cool, dust with a pinch of cinnamon, and serve.

In Ayurveda, the goal is to balance doshas (vata, pitta, kapha) and enhance agni (digestive fire) while supporting ojas (vitality). The original lemon bar’s heavy butter and refined sugar risk increasing kapha (sluggishness) and aggravating pitta (heat) due to lemon’s sourness (amla rasa). Replacing butter with ghee, which is lighter and boosts agni, aids digestion and nourishes without excess heaviness. Jaggery, a less-processed sweetener, is warming and easier to digest than refined sugar, balancing vata and reducing kapha buildup. Cardamom in the crust cools pitta and counters lemon’s heat, while vanilla in the filling enhances agni, moistening and grounding. Honey, lighter than sugar, supports kapha balance and adds a sweet taste madhura rasa that uplifts ojas. Cinnamon as a topping warms and aids circulation, harmonizing the dessert’s effects.

In TCM, the focus is on harmonizing qi, yin/yang, and preventing dampness (stagnation). Standard lemon bars’ butter and sugar can overburden the Spleen, creating dampness and weakening digestion. Ghee, warmer and less dampening, supports Spleen qi and nourishes yin without clogging. Honey, neutral and moistening, strengthens Spleen qi and generates fluids, replacing sugar’s potential to stagnate. Vanilla, warming, grounding and calming. Providing a supportive role. Lemon disperses dampness, and aids the Liver in smoothing qi flow, countering the dessert’s density. Cardamom warms the Spleen, enhancing digestion, while arrowroot, lighter than flour-based thickeners, reduces qi stagnation. Cinnamon boosts yang, aiding circulation and balancing lemon’s slight warmth.

Tips to sync up with the (unnecessary) time change:

+ Go to bed earlier, gradually migrating back to your natural bedtime.
+ Rise just before the sun. If this isn’t possible due to work or school, light candles when you wake up—avoid artificial light—and/or start a fire.
+ Go outside right before dawn to take in the sunrise.
+ Meet the sunset with an evening stroll or dinner outside.
+ Eat at your normal times prior to time change and slowly migrate to new time. IE if you ate breakfast at 7 eat at ate 8. Slowly migrate back to your normal breakfast time. Parents pack your kiddos nutrient rich snacks, if they go to school.

All of this will help your circadian rhythm.

Hungarian Cookie. Simple Crisp. This recipe is filled with childhood memories. Secret ingredient. Love.

Growing up, my best friend’s grandparents visited a few times a year. Her grandmother always brought a box of cookies—Hungarian treats filled with love. The memory of eating them never fails to bring a smile to my face. May they bring one to yours too.
Ingredients
5 - 3/4 C. Flour
1 tsp. Baking Powder
1/2 tsp. Salt
1-1/2 sticks sweet butter
1- 1/2 C. Sugar
5 Eggs

Instructions

1. Sift flour, baking powder and slat into a bowl. Add softened butter and crumble well.

2. In a separate bowl, beat eggs and sugar; pour into flour mixture.

3. Work first in the bowl and then on a board. Knead until the dough is smooth.

4. Form and ball and return to the bowl. Cover with wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.

5. Divide the dough into 4 sections. On a floured board, roll out 1 section at a time to about 1/8 inches in thickness. Cut forms with cookie cutters.

6. Bake on lightly greases sheet for about 5 minutes at 350 degrees F. Then, reduce to 325 F and bake for 10-15 minutes, until golden.

7.Store in a metal box. You can add a simply powder sugar glaze with a cacao drizzle.
