Patterns and Characteristics of Codependence

These patterns and characteristics are offered as a tool to aid in self-evaluation.
They may be particularly helpful to newcomers.

Denial Patterns:

I have difficulty identifying what I am feeling.
I minimize, alter, or deny how I truly feel.
I perceive myself as completely unselfish and dedicated to the well-being of others.
I lack empathy for the feelings and needs of others.
I label others with my negative traits.
I can take care of myself without any help from others.
I mask my pain in various ways such as anger, humor, or isolation.
I express negativity or aggression in indirect and passive ways.
I do not recognize the unavailability of those people to whom I am attracted.

Low Self Esteem Patterns:

I have difficulty making decisions.
I judge what I think, say, or do harshly, as never good enough.
I am embarrassed to receive recognition, praise, or gifts.
I value others’ approval of my thinking, feelings, and behavior over my own.
I do not perceive myself as a lovable or worthwhile person.
I constantly seek recognition that I think I deserve.
I have difficulty admitting that I made a mistake.
I need to appear to be right in the eyes of others and will even lie to look good.
I am unable to ask others to meet my needs or desires.
I perceive myself as superior to others.
I look to others to provide my sense of safety.
I have difficulty getting started, meeting deadlines, and completing projects.
I have trouble setting healthy priorities.

Compliance Patterns:

I am extremely loyal, remaining in harmful situations too long.
I compromise my own values and integrity to avoid rejection or anger.
I put aside my own interests in order to do what others want.
I am hypervigilant regarding the feelings of others and take on those feelings.
I am afraid to express my beliefs, opinions, and feelings when they differ from those of others.
I accept sexual attention when I want love.
I make decisions without regard to the consequences.
I give up my truth to gain the approval of others or to avoid change.

Control Patterns:

I believe most people are incapable of taking care of themselves.
I attempt to convince others what to think, do, or feel.
I freely offer advice and direction to others without being asked.
I become resentful when others decline my help or reject my advice.
I lavish gifts and favors on those I want to influence.
I use sexual attention to gain approval and acceptance.
I have to be needed in order to have a relationship with others.
I demand that my needs be met by others.
I use charm and charisma to convince others of my capacity to be caring and compassionate.
I use blame and shame to emotionally exploit others.
I refuse to cooperate, compromise, or negotiate.
I adopt an attitude of indifference, helplessness, authority, or rage to manipulate outcomes.
I use terms of recovery in an attempt to control the behavior of others.
I pretend to agree with others to get what I want.

Avoidance Patterns:

I act in ways that invite others to reject, shame, or express anger toward me.
I judge harshly what others think, say, or do.
I avoid emotional, physical, or sexual intimacy as a means of maintaining distance.
I allow my addictions to people, places, and things to distract me from achieving intimacy in relationships.
I use indirect and evasive communication to avoid conflict or confrontation.
I diminish my capacity to have healthy relationships by declining to use all the tools of recovery.
I suppress my feelings or needs to avoid feeling vulnerable.
I pull people toward me, but when they get close, I push them away.
I refuse to give up my self-will to avoid surrendering to a power that is greater than myself.
I believe displays of emotion are a sign of weakness.
I withhold expressions of appreciation.

Chocolate Chip Cookies. These were a warm treat we Chocolate Chip Cookies. These were a warm treat we always looked forward to when I was growing up. My mom consistently had these cookies waiting for us after school. Everyone that stopped by always wanted ‘Ma Toro’s’ cookies. She still gets requests to this day. 

There is something so comforting having a few fresh from the oven cookies after school.

French Onion Soup A nourishing fall to winter com French Onion Soup

A nourishing fall to winter companion. This will help you feel warm from the inside out. In addition, it will serve as a protector and purifier of your mind, body, heart and soul.

Servings: 4 to 6
Prep Time: 20 Minutes
Cook Time: 1 Hour 40 Minutes
Total Time: 2 Hours

Ingredients

2 tbsp unsalted butter
1 tbsp olive oil
2 cloves of garlic, minced
2 medium sweet onions, sliced thinly
3/4 tsp himalayan salt
1/2 tsp freshly ground pepper
1 tbsp flour, all-purpose
1/2 cup red wine
3 cups vegetable or beef broth
1/2 tsp dried thyme
1 bay leave
1/2 tsp oregano
1 small baguette, cut into 1/2 inch slices
1/2 cup Gruyere cheese, grated

Directions:

In soup pot, melt butter and add the olive oil. Add, the onion, garlic, thyme, oregano, salt and pepper. 
Stir the onions occasionally with a wooden spoon. Continue to cook, until the onions caramelize. Mid-way you will need to stir more frequently. 
Add the red wine stir. Cook for 8 - 10 minutes until the liquid is evaporated. The onions will be like a jam. 
Then add flour and cook, stirring constantly, for 1-2 minutes.
Add the broth with the bay leaf. Bring to a gentle boil and then reduce heat to simmer. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes. 
As soup simmers, lightly toast the bread. Set aside.
Once the soup is finished add some of the cheese to the toasted bread. You can broil or toast till the cheese melts.
Then, place soup in a bowl. Add additional cheese to your preference. 
Place toasted bread with cheese in the middle of the bowl. Enjoy.

If you do not want dairy, beef broth or wine, you can substitute the cheese for a nut cheese, the beef broth for vegetable broth and the wine with sherry vinegar.

These cookies are an interesting trick. They are super healthy and almost are reminiscent of a muffin top. Yet, they satisfy the mental craving for a cookie.

I will be doing another modification on this recipe. I want it to have more crunch. If you want this recipe, just DM me.

I will say 1 butternut squash makes a lot of food. The soup yielded 2-3 servings. The wrap or breakfast hash provided 2 servings. Finally, the cookies yielded a dozen. (Bonus…I had a cup extra to add to my pups dog food.)

Since I was a young maiden, I attempted to find an Since I was a young maiden, I attempted to find an alternative solution to [w]a(r). I innocently thought what about a chess match or just a one on one wrestling match. However, my father would point out the limitations to this approach. Here decades later, understanding even more the sobering truth of the wizard of O(z)! As I looked beyond the beyond the VEil, I was left with a deep knowing to encourage everyone to practice LOVE. 

See it was the wizard’s idea to script out the great divide. Which was an invitation to oppress, divide, argue and forget. The divine exists in all of us. No matter what you want to call the divinity…it is a power that cannot be destroyed and exists in all of you. That POWER is LOVE. 

As inspired, take many moments to reacquaint yourself with the mystery that runs through all things. If you choose to embrace that POWER…you will harness LOVe. Plum Sauce Recipe * 6 plums washed, chopped and Plum Sauce Recipe 

* 6 plums washed, chopped and pitted (2 cups)
* 1 sweet potato, medium chopped
* 1 onion, chopped medium
* 2 cloves garlic, minced
* 1/2 cup coconut or brown sugar
* 1 cup maple syrup 
* 1 tablespoon dry mustard
* 1 tablespoon Chinese Five Spice
* 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 
* 1/2 teaspoon cardamom 
* 1 - 2 teaspoons Himalayan salt
* 2 teaspoons red pepper flakes or to taste
* crushed black pepper to taste
* 1/4 cup blueberry or Balsamic vinegar
* 1/4 cup soy sauce or amino acid 
* 1 tsp hoisin 
* 1 tsp fish sauce
* 2-3 tablespoons olive or sunflower oil
* Spring water

Directions. 

1. Heat oil in saucepan over medium heat, add onions, garlic and spices.
2. Add plums, sweet potatoes with the remaining ingredients. 
3. Add 1/4 cup spring water, reduce to low heat and cook down for 20-30 minutes. You can even cook longer.
4. Then, set aside to cool.
5. Purée in a blender or equivalent.
6. Place in a jar and store in the fridge.
7. Share extra with a friend. Enjoy.
