“They luxuriated in the feeling of deep and all pervading satisfaction, a feeling of knowing absolutely that all was well with the world…Not only were all things possible, but all things were theirs.”
Hubert Selby Jr
Over the past few decades there has been an increase in the exploration of plant medicines with the intent to heal the mind, heart, soul and body. An experience that is traditionally held by shamans in remote areas of the world. These practices are best to be held with deep reverence and tradition. Yet, it is clear the plants have made their way into the urban jungles. While, the medicines evolve with us…we (plants & humans) will eventually be returned to our sacred state and sit “free” in nature.
The reason most people turn to mind altering plants is to gather another perspective. Right now we all could use another perspective from within and with the immediate world around us. The benefit is to potentially realize what you are overlooking within self. From there you have the opportunity to transform.
A simple way to experience an altered state without ingesting any medicinal offerings from Mother Nature is to meditate daily. Honestly, you can experience everything and more that can be experienced on a magic plant ride from your cushion. All it takes is practice and an adept teacher to assist you in staying in the world with perspective. Like anything you can go to far and it can be a long road back to here.
If inspired, take a sit out in nature under a large tree. Sit with your back to the trunk and just be. You can follow your natural breathing pattern by simply observing it with your eyes closed. Alternatively, you can stare at one focal point on the earth in front of you. Stay as long as possible.
If you feel so inclined, DM or post your experiences below to me. If enjoy that and want to explore more, contact me…I can assist you in deepening your practice.
