Below is a Journal Entry from 2013, I feel inspired to share this here. I have been offering sound therapy as an exclusive and integrated treatment for almost nineteen years in my private holistic wellness practice. Lately, I feel compelled to write and speak about the medicine and purpose of sound beyond what is understood here in the present moment. I see the rise of this sacred modality becoming an ‘industry’ potentially serving in many directions. However, when anything becomes an ‘industry’, a slippery slope can suddenly arrive. The foundation can quickly fall away. The result can degraded and/or reawaken the potential originally held within its pure and original essence. In this moment, sound has become something that is being examined, hacked and grasped for. From an eastern mindfulness practice, grasping at anything will lead to suffering. The reemergence of sound in all forms of eastern and western settings will hopefully remind those receiving and giving sound that this modality has been held long before any written words, ‘classical music’ and any disharmony (aka disease) existed. Sound is a very powerful contributor to our existence and helps our entire eco-system retain harmony. There are so many intricacies and a demand for integrity to be held and honored within these sound lineages and the original source of sound itself.
What I can share, is what I have learned from the depths of my soul during this lifetime and my own inner reclamation and remembering, I am very much a ‘traditionalist’. In a tribal setting this means one who honors the practice that was passed down through generations in ways that are not always going to mirror what the ‘modern world’ is doing or supports. For example, within the agriculture system, the traditional leaders know how to farm and grow food without fancy soil, compost and irrigation. They know how to work energetically with the elements to create a great bounty from the seeds they plant. Their ability to do this in not something you can replicate by grasping. These capabilities are earned through discipline, attention and practice. While, I do integrate these ‘modern tools’ (aka the computer and internet) to reach some of my clients and students, I work with sound and electromagnetic energy in the purest form possible. I continue to deepen my own understanding of what that means here and hold it very carefully. I have worked with sound long before this incarnation. It has always been one of my eternal being’s gifts. The attention and purity I previously practiced with are what ensured I would intersect, be offered to use again and remember these gifts during this life (aka karma, cause and effect). I have been supported by unexplainable situations, indigenous elders, the divine and my inner willingness to live from my soul not from my humanness. It is the gift of my human life that gives me the opportunity to continue to serve with sound. All of which has been very humbling and given me greater knowing how important it is to continue to master and refine our gifts. Irregardless of how the world is turning and who is attempting to grasp for any and all things. The elders have shared with me the layers of manipulation and the polarity of integrity, ultimately sift out the takers and protect these sacred traditions.
As ‘I’ wrote below, ‘I’ use the word ‘she’ not as an identification or a pronoun in the literary sense but as a reminder to myself of the ‘nothingness’…’I’ aspire to be.
