Are you tired of consuming foods based on trends? Are you eating foods because you want a specific outcome? Do you want to learn how to listen for what your body, mind, heart and soul needs/wants to contribute to your well being?
During the Winter months, you can nourish your inner and outer being by listening and slowing down. There are many foods that are available to help you maintain well being. Furthermore, a simple way to support your well being is to have a few dried flowers and herbs for simple teas and cooking on hand. The following flowers and herbs can support you during the winter season: lotus, tangerine peel, chamomile, licorice root, and ginger root.
Lotus Tea will give you the most certain CALM.
This magical tea and plant has a way of bringing everything into perspective and welcoming in a most certain calm. For many they are accustomed to reaching for substances that will mask symptoms. Instead, it is optimal to bring the system back into balance and regenerate the areas that have disharmony. This can simply be achieved by sipping certain plant based teas on a daily basis. It is important to remember that every person responds differently to food, flowers, plants and herbs. In addition, if you are taking medication it is always important to check if there are any interactions between food medicine and HUMan made medicine.
The lotus has a calming benefit to the heart, mind, and soul. It is beneficial to the stomach, spleen and liver. In addition it is used to treat loose bowels and reduce (stop) bleeding. In addition, it helps balance blood sugar levels, improve skin, improve mental function, circulation and reduce stress.
Tangerine ORANGE PEEL TEA (CHEN PI)
Find Calm. Regenerate. Repair.Tangerine or Orange peel—called Chen Pi
It is used to treat indigestion, diarrhea, vomiting and other forms of digestive weakness or upset, as well as hiccups and certain types of coughs (specifically, wet coughs involving excessive production of phlegm). It will settle, regulate, and normalize the flow of qi (in traditional Chinese medicine, the term for life force), and to break up congestion. Furthermore, it is will improve the flow of liquids through the body. Tangerine peel is also used to promote healing and ease inflammation in connection with pulled muscles, sprains, twisted tendons, and other sports injuries.
BENEFITS “Tangerine Peel is an easily digestible, highly nutritious support for a healthy digestive tract and has helped ease gastrointestinal complaints such as dyspepsia, colic, flatulence, indigestion, diarrhea and heartburn and is said to be particularly effective in digesting fatty foods. The pectin in Orange Peel appears to stimulate the growth of healthy bacteria that is effective in helping to prevent food-borne pathogens; and some folk healers have even claimed that Orange Rind may also help clear toxins (including lead poisoning) from the system.
In addition, reduces weight and risk of heart disease. It also has a way of calming and soothing the nervous & digestive system. Nature’s way providing a remedy from depression, emotional stress and sleepless nights. Furthermore, the orange friend will dry up mucous in the both the stomach and lungs. Huge BONUS, medical research is catching up with what the ancients already new, this is a natural way to combat certain cancers. The peel has been proven to attach and destroy cancer cells. Which includes and is not limited to lung, breast, prostate, blood and ovarian cancers. “Tangeritin, a bioflavonoid found in tangerine peel, has been shown to strengthen epithelial cells in a manner that inhibits the metastasis of cancer cells (Bracke et al., 1996). Naturopath Bill Mitchell explained in a lecture that the compound increases the functional integrity of E-cadherin, which is a cell-to-cell adhesive protein found to be deficient in tissue samples of most cancer patients. Based on these results, we can deduce that tangeritin, and its source, tangerine, might be useful as a cancer preventative. The reasoning is simple–about 80 percent of breast cancers start in the epithelial tissue lining the breast ducts, and this bioflavonoid makes the tissue tougher and more resistant.”@esgreen
Chamomile Tea will cultivate the calm from within. Furthermore, it is balancing, replenishing and proactive medicine for your well being. Chamomile tea was used by the Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians as a salve for wounds to expedite healing. It works especially well treating burn wounds and has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antioxidant effects. The tea has a calming affect on your entire system and is the perfect beverage for before bedtime.

One of the most widely use plants in Chinese Medicine. Supports the spleen, stomach, heart and lungs. All of which supports…digestion, blood flow, Qi generator and water nourishing the body. It benefits the stomach, heart, kidney, lungs and spleen. The heat helps expel the disharmony and stop from further invasion.
The root or underground stem (rhizome) of the ginger plant can be consumed fresh, powdered, dried as a spice, in oil form, or as juice.
